School Counseling Vision

The vision of the Calvin Coolidge High School Counseling Department is to support a future where all graduates are ready to engage meaningfully in a global society. We strive for our students to be resilient, self-actualized individuals who are prepared to pursue their life goals. With skills, confidence, and a multi-faceted perspective, they will positively contribute to our communities. This vision aligns with the mission of our school and the district by making sure that all of our students are reaching their full potential.

School Counseling Mission

The mission of the Calvin Coolidge High School Counseling Department is to provide equitable, data-informed counseling that supports every student’s social-emotional, academic, and post-secondary success. We speak up for the needs of all students and interact with all parties to help them feel challenged, loved, and ready to thrive in a nurturing environment. This environment will support their overall well-being and personal growth.

Developmental Domains

The developmental domains help focus on helping students build positive attitudes and habits that foster learning and prepare our students for success while they are in school with us, in college, in their careers and beyond.

Academic

Academic development is all about helping students do their best in school. That means supporting them with planning out their classes, building strong study habits, and giving them extra support when subjects can get to be difficult. This could include things like tutoring or other interventions. We also help students pick the right courses for their future endeavors. We want our students to feel good about being on track for graduation and beyond.

Social Emotional Learning

Social emotional development is about helping students identify their feelings and how to healthily manage them. We want students to be able to get along with their peers as well as adults within the building. This extends itself outside of the building as well. Through lessons, small groups, one-on-one check-ins, and whole school activities, we teach students skills that will help them be resilient. This coping skills will last them a lifetime.

Career

Counselors are tasked with helping students explore who they are and what they want to do after high school. We help students think about their interests and help them figure out their strengths and values. All of these things can help them connect to real life careers and lead them to things that they may be interested in doing. These things could include college, a trade, entering the workforce, the military and more. We want them to see their options and choose what is in their best interest.

Confidentiality

My job is to ensure confidentiality for all of my students when interacting with me. I take this very seriously, and I will not disclose anything that is shared in one-on-one or group school counseling sessions. I have an ethical obligation to keep their information private.
I must break confidentiality if any of the following occur:

The student is going to harm themselves.
The student is going to harm someone else.
The student has reported abuse to me as it pertains to them or another student.
